True to her diverse interests, she has a diploma in anaesthetics from the Colleges of Medicine South Africa and is trained in the provision of lifestyle advice and up-to-date management of hypertension/diabetes and metabolic syndrome. Her other interests include maternal and child health, as well as women's (adolescent) reproductive and sexual health. She is a mother of two, who loves taking her girls to ballet, and enjoys long distance running on weekends.

After her internship and community service and working in the UK she came home to work at the Red Cross Children’s Hospital (first as SHO then registrar) for two and a half years. Dr. Du Preez then moved to trauma as a Casualty Officer at a Private Hospital for a year before doing a brief stint as a ship surgeon on the RMS St Helena.
