Dr Leon Jooste initiated his tertiary studies at Stellenbosch University with a Bachelor’s in Agriculture (Enology & Viticulture) and also obtained a Master’s degree in Agriculture (Plant Physiology). He subsequently returned to full-time study in dentistry at Stellenbosch University and received a BChD degree. In 1988 he went into private practice in Pietermaritzburg.
